It was a day like no other for me when I woke up groggily. I felt a bounding onto the bed and a squeals of excitement begging me to wake up. Given no choice to end the onslaught, I tried prying open my eyes after my brief sleep. Sleep had not come easily to me as there were many things to arrange, but I was thankful that I was able to sleep in as late as I normally do
As I awoke to my beautiful girlfriend, grinning ear from ear, I was asked whether it could be present time now. She had been waiting almost two weeks to give me her gifts, and I could see that it had worn away her patience. I barely contain the excitment myself as she pulled out a movie I had been dying to see called
Dantes Inferno, and a book on Egypt. While I love books period, this particular book was one that I had already owned. But having the memory of a goldfish, I played along cautiously saying I'm sure I had seen this book before...
It took her opening up the book to realise her gift had been placed inside. Two tickets to go see the King Tut Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). I had been pining for the chance to view the artefacts held there in so badly, but it had passed on long ago. I had been totally unaware that the exhibit had reentered (or even never left) the AGO. So this gift was not only one of the most thoughtful, but also an exciting one at that! She had called into service her family to lend the use of the vehicle, and we left for Toronto the same day.
I can only describe the experience as eye-opening and almost spiritually uplifting. It opened my eyes to not only the complexity of the Ancient Egyptian world and the beauty many of the well-known pharaohs had, but also that I feel a spiritual connection to my girlfriend that is uncanny. Our wonder at similar things, our wonder towards dichotomous subjects at times, and our love to see the other's wonder just floors me. As she sleeps soundly next to me, I can guarentee you darling, I had one of the best days of my life.
Thank-you.
