    Prettiest Girl Alive

This post is largely a response to a couple sites I was looking at today.  Mainly it is a recent post on Mancouch regarding the Prettiest Girl Alive.

While I acknowledge that beauty is seen mostly by North American culture as another object to flaunt, I cannot help but acknowledge the truth beauty of someone who has quietly affected my life as a teenage male: Sharbat Gula (a.k.a. Afghan Girl).

My great-aunt used to collect National Geographic magazines for as long as I can remember.  The only one that has really burnt itself into my childhood memory (and probably the memory of many) is the picture taken of a twelve year old school girl in a 1980's Afghanistan refugee camp.  More information can be found on Wikipedia as well as MSN Video.

I don't know how many of you are with me on this one, but I am in love with this picture.  In love with the pain, soft fury, and intelligence in those eyes.  I have always had a thing for bright eyes, especially bright green eyes.

Eulogy to a 3-day old Bunny

Before a rabbit becomes a rabbit, he is first a bunny.  That cute innocent stage in its life, cute-afficiandos call "bunny" is enough to make even this hard-hearted fuddy-duddy peek a little its way.

Mr. Sally, you did not have the chance to be either.  Before you could even open your eyes, you were snatched away by the clawed capture of Death.  Your mother could not have seen the terror that would be unleashed by that feline devil, or the grizzled teeth of the Destroyer that followed his wake.  With your siblings all dead, and carnage surrounding you, I was proud that you were able to withstand the brutality that you must have witnessed as the body of your sibling pinned you to the ground as another was carried off in its jowls.

Rikki has worked tirelessly to provide you with the love and comfort you should have had.  When you died today, you killed a little of her as well.  I understand that it must have been too hard to carry on.  I don't blame you for wanting to let go.

Mr. Sally there was not much we knew about you, but we will spend the rest of our lives thinking of you as the bunny who got away, the one that showed so much courage in the face of adversity, the one we'll forever think of as our Herz.

Gute nacht, unser Herz.  Gute nacht!

    Allo allo!

Ever wish that your phone could reflect the weather outside with surprising accuracy, and look really cool doing it?  To be honest, I've never thought about it.  Take a moment and reflect.

Take a look at The Window Phone: Link

I don't know about you guys, but this is one of the coolest digital devices I've ever seen.  But what about you guys, would you buy it?

    A Perfect Valentine's Day 2010

It was a day like no other for me when I woke up groggily.  I felt a bounding onto the bed and a squeals of  excitement begging me to wake up.  Given no choice to end the onslaught, I tried prying open my eyes after my brief sleep.  Sleep had not come easily to me as there were many things to arrange, but I was thankful that I was able to sleep in as late as I normally do

As I awoke to my beautiful girlfriend, grinning ear from ear, I was asked whether it could be present time now.  She had been waiting almost two weeks to give me her gifts, and I could see that it had worn away her patience.  I barely contain the excitment myself as she pulled out a movie I had been dying to see called Dantes Inferno, and a book on Egypt.  While I love books period, this particular book was one that I had already owned.  But having the memory of a goldfish, I played along cautiously saying I'm sure I had seen this book before...

It took her opening up the book to realise her gift had been placed inside.  Two tickets to go see the King Tut Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO).  I had been pining for the chance to view the artefacts held there in so badly, but it had passed on long ago.  I had been totally unaware that the exhibit had reentered (or even never left) the AGO.  So this gift was not only one of the most thoughtful, but also an exciting one at that!  She had called into service her family to lend the use of the vehicle, and we left for Toronto the same day.

I can only describe the experience as eye-opening and almost spiritually uplifting.  It opened my eyes to not only the complexity of the Ancient Egyptian world and the beauty many of the well-known pharaohs had, but also that I feel a spiritual connection to my girlfriend that is uncanny.  Our wonder at similar things, our wonder towards dichotomous subjects at times, and our love to see the other's wonder just floors me.  As she sleeps soundly next to me, I can guarentee you darling, I had one of the best days of my life.

    Thank-you.
